WHAT IS HIIT and is it for you ⁉️High-intensity interval training. ⚠️ HIIT should not be mistaken for HIT (High-intensity training) because HIT can be many different types of training, for example weight lifting being one of them. ⚠️ HIIT on the other hand is when you perform for example one REALLY high-intense exercise for about 10-20 seconds MAX (!!) and then rest (rest, walk or jogg) until you can do another interval, and then repeat. You NEED to hit almost 90% of you heart rate to get the benefits of a HIIT session, this is why you should not be able to go on for more than 10-20sec per interval because if you do, you’re not hitting that high rate you need. A HIIT workout should be around 5-20 minute~ish. Running 60s resting 60s is not HIIT which many seem to think. ⚠️ When you perform HIT and HIIT a anaerobic process starts, which means that your body use glycogen as energy/fuel. To make it easy you can say that HIIT and HIT will burn mostly carbs and not fat. Roughly speaking a HIIT workout can burn 500 calories (from carbs mostly!) In less than 20 minutes compared to a brisk walk when you need to go for about 1 hour to burn the same amount of calories, the bigger part from fat. ⚠️ When you do a low intense workout your body have the possibility to use your oxygen to convert fat to energy/fuel. ⚠️ HIIT is something I recommend for weight loss (not to be mistaken for fat loss), or if you have very limited time and doesn’t weight train as main activity. If you lift weights often, I would not do too many HIIT sessions/week because of the recovery time needed. Remember, lifting weights is also considered as high intense.
